This paper will address the following regarding Kudler Fine Foods: identify Kudler’s key business and accounting information needs, analyze the strengths and weaknesses of Kudler’s current computer system and technology use, including hardware and software. It will explain what opportunities Kudler has in terms of technology and provide suggestions for improving Kudler’s ability to maximize these opportunities. It will discuss evaluating the threats that Kudler may encounter given their current systems and offer your suggestions, in terms of using technology.
Kudler Fine Foods is a small local upscale food store located in the San Diego metropolitan area. It has three location: La Jolla, DelMar and Encinitas. Kudler Fine Food store are stocked with domestic and important foodstuffs like: fresh bakery, fresh produce, fresh meat & seafood, condiments and packaged foods and cheese’s and specialty dairy products. Kudler Fine Foods was founded in 1998 by Kathy Kudler. Kathy expressed herself through gourmet cooking and realized that there were opportunities to open an upscale food shop in La Jolla. After the success of the first store in La Jolla, two years later she opened the second store in Del Mar and a year later the third store in Encinitas. Their mission is to “provide our customers the finest in selected foodstuffs, wines, and related needs in an unparalled consumer environment. Our selections, coupled with our experienced, helpful and knowledgeable staff, merge to offer each customer a delightful and pleasing shopping outing. We will provide this service because we "shop the world" for our products; purchase only the finest of products; are highly selective in acquiring our team members; and will go to extensive lengths to assure that Kudler's is the purveyor of choice for customers aspiring to purchase the finest epicurean” (http://ecampus.phoenix.edu/secure/aapd/CIST/VOP/index.html).
Kudler Fine Foods has the prospective to be one of the worlds’ leaders in the delivery of gourmet food and essentials. However, if the company does not have the right information systems then the company will not attain much.
The original Business Plan for Kudler’s Fine Food included funds in surplus of $50,000 to employ a consulting firm to aid in the selection and mechanism of an inclusive Retail Enterprise Management System (REMS). They selected Smith Systems Consulting for the contract. After a comprehensive investigation, a modular and scalable RMS was chosen, acquired and inaugurated in the first and following Kudlers retail stores. Smith Consulting was contracted on a yearly basis to uphold this new system, the REMS. As a growing business, Kudler’s needs are constantly changing, especially in terms of the company’s information technology and information systems. Kudler Fine Food key business and accounting information needs are to uphold and develop the present three stores and offer the future ability to open more stores. With the likely development of Kudler Fine Foods, which could result from the marketing programs and tactics that are being applied, there are a few things that may continue to be the company information system needs. For instance, a customer database that includes essential information such as first and last name, address, birth dates anniversaries and etc. They need to have finance and accounting records of the transactions that might be reflected in the chart of accounts. These transactions should be by department, product and stores. Also financial statements, budgets, inventory reports, accounts payable and accounts receivable reconciliation should also be recording and reflecting in the charts of accounts.
